I am typing this lying in bed wearing several layers of clothing, buried under my comforter and blanket, because the idea of being in any other room in our place when it’s 30 degrees out sounds completely unreasonable.
I do not like to be cold. AT ALL. We play temperature tag with the thermostat; him enjoying a balmy 63 degrees, me setting it to 70, where it would be so warm I could wear a t-shirt indoors. Being cold zaps my energy or any motivation to literally do anything.
Can’t I just have a heated blanket tightly wrapped around my body at all times? Who cares if I am out in public. I could be at the bar, not having a care in the world. Those suckers freezing, while I am sitting comfortably in a regularly temperate cocoon of heat. The only thing that should be cold is my expertly prepared martini.
Until they normalize heated blankets at a bar, I will have to settle for being covered in one, on my couch, with my favorite cocktail.
So in the spirit of getting into the Winter (Too Cold) Season, our martini icon for this week is the one and only James Bond, making being chased by villains feel so effortlessly easy in harsh winter conditions.
While there are a few James Bond movies that have pinnacle winter scenes, I like Pierce Brosnan in Die Another Day (2002). Particularly the snowmobile scene, where Bond is being chased by (of course) a villain across a frozen landscape.

Of course, after a long chase, one needs a martini, shaken not stirred.

Phew. All in a day’s work.
Now, as you know by now, we prefer to stir our martinis, but in this case, we’ll make an exception, because he is THE martini icon.
Tonight’s recipe: The James Bond Vesper Martini (From Delish.com)
Put on your favorite James Bond movie, with your tuxedo and drink in hand, and enjoy!
Gin: Tanqueray or Beefeater (I prefer Beefeater, but use what you like)
Vermouth: None
Lillet Blanc
Vodka: Ketel One (Or another neutral)
Garnish: Lemon Peel
You’ll need:
Cocktail Shaker
Chilled Martini Glass
Lemon Peel
Ice
In a cocktail shaker, combine gin, Lillet Blanc, and vodka. Fill shaker with ice, cover, and vigorously shake until outside of shaker is very frosty, about 20 seconds.
Strain into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with lemon twist.

Tonight’s Playlist:
Sonny Clark, Leapin and Lopin

You would have assumed I would pick a James Bond theme song, but frankly, I am not a huge fan of Madonna’s “Die Another Day”. Besides, Bond would be romancing a woman he met a bar with this music in the background.
I hope you enjoy today’s Martini Friday’s blog! Cheers!
