Travel Feature: Camden, Maine

One of the things I love about living in New England is you can drive an hour and be in a whole new state. Or two hours and have a great short weekend.

After weeks of working so much, we needed a break from the city. Maine is one of our favorite places to visit, and Camden fit the bill. It’s small, quaint, has delicious food, and QUIET!

Only a 3 hour drive, we got up early, drove to our hotel, dropped off our luggage til check in, and hit the cute town.

Before dinner, we ordered two very cold, very dry martinis at The Vintage Room at the 16 Bay View Hotel.

For dinner, we went to Peter Otts, a lovely waterfront restaurant serving fresh seafood. We sat outside on their patio, where I had another martini. While it wasn’t as satisfying as the one at the Vintage Room, it checked the boxes.

The next day, we headed to Rockport, only a 15 minute drive from Camden. The downtown is a block long: There’s an ice cream shop, a coffee shop, a bookshop, and a new hotel. It was the perfect way to spend the day before heading home.

We got to sit outside on the deck and have a martini with a view. These were by far our favorite martinis on the trip. They actually stirred instead of shook the mixture! And the view didn’t hurt either.

It was the perfect getaway. I recommend going during the week if you can, but if not, be sure to book as far in advance as the Summer season fills up fast!

Other activities we did in between martinis:

Camden:
– Ate a Burger at pub Cuzzy’s (Left photo)
– Shopped (and bought too many books) at The Owl & Turtle Bookshop (Middle Photo) and had Coffee On the Porch Coffee (Eric’s favorite!)
– Enjoyed the beautiful water views (Right photo)
– Ate sandwiches at Camden Deli (not pictured) – highly recommend the Reuben, and getting their homemade sweets!
– Enjoyed all the cute shops in downtown! We got wine at Lily Lupine & Fern and home goods at The Smiling Cow

Rockport:
– Had coffee and the best sparkling tea I’ve ever had at Seafolk Coffee
– Shopped for more books at Barnswallow Books

We can’t wait to go back! Where are your favorite places to go in Maine?

We’re Lindsay and Eric!

We believe there is nothing better than the first sip of a very cold, very dry martini. Choose your gin, mix in your vermouth, garnish with an olive, twist (or both!), and let’s discuss the best cocktail in the world.
